Troubleshoot the Home Assistant BACnet integration
Common problems
| Problem | Likely cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| "No devices found" | The device is not running, or it is on a different subnet | Check that the device is reachable on UDP 47808. Enter its IP address in Target device address, or use a BBMD. See Getting started. |
| "Cannot connect" | Port 47808 is already in use | Stop other BACnet software on the host, or use a different port. |
| Entities show "Unavailable" | The device went offline | Check the device and Settings → Repairs. Entities recover automatically. |
| "The BACnet device rejected the write" | Wrong write priority, or the object is not writable | Check the log for the reason, enable the Write Priority entity, or check bacnet_commandable. |
| You want to release an override | Turning off commands inactive; it does not release | Use the bacnet.relinquish action. See How writes work. |
| COV does not work | The device does not support COV | This is normal. Polling takes over as a fallback. |
| Write has no effect | The object is not commandable | Check the bacnet_commandable attribute. |
| Write has no effect at the expected priority | The device requires a specific priority level | Enable the Write Priority entity and select the correct level. |
| Values do not update | COV increment too high, or polling interval too long | Lower the COV increment or the polling interval. See Configuration. |
| Entities go unavailable after a network blip | Expected: the integration detects outages and reconnects | No action needed. Entities recover once the device is reachable again. |
After several failed polls in a row the device gets a message in Settings → Repairs, and the integration reconnects. The message disappears by itself once the device responds. If the address changed, use Reconfigure.
Debug logging
To get detailed BACnet logs, add this to your configuration.yaml:
logger:
logs:
custom_components.bacnet: debug
Diagnostics download
When you report a problem, attach the diagnostics file: Settings → Devices & Services → BACnet IP → ⋮ → Download diagnostics. Network addresses are redacted.
Report a problem
Open an issue on GitHub with the diagnostics file, the Home Assistant version and the manufacturer and model of the device.
